Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins‘ opted out of their pto with 10-year pro center Niko Dimitrakos(25) after starting the season with the team putting up 6 goals and 4 assists in 21 games.

He was originally drafted by San Jose Sharks in the 5th round of the 1999 draft (#155 overall) and has played 158 NHL games scoring 24 goals 38 assists in 158 games with the Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers.

In the preseason, he played in games for Vancouver Canucks on a tryout invite to their camp.

It looked like San Jose Sharks‘ 6th round pick in the 2009 draft (#177 overall), center Tommy Wingels(17) was going to be playing full-time in the NHL from his strong training camp and preseason play, but three games into the season with only 1 assist to his credit he was reassigned to their AHL affiliate Worcester Sharks to continue working on his game.

In 5 contests with Worcester he has a couple of assists but is playing some pretty good overall hockey.

Phoenix Coyotes‘ 2006 7th round draft pick (#196 overall) center Benn Ferriero(21) never played a game for the team, but instead was signed by San Jose Sharks as a free agent in 2009 and has played in 59 NHL contests registering 8 goals and 7 assists.

His most recent might have been one of the sweetest in his 3-year pro career (getting a goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on his birthday probably ranks up there too) but last weekend he got the game-winner at the TD Garden vs. the Bruins.

In this rink the Boston native played many a Beanpot game in throughout his 4-year Boston College Eagles’ hockey days.

Rookie center Nathan Moon(34) was originally drafted by Pittsburgh Penguins in the 4th round of the 2008 draft (#120 overall) but never signed with them.

After his junior career concluded last year, he went on to join Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (r.i.p.) of the Central Hockey League and won the Ray Miron President’s Cup with the team in its last season of existence. Nice way to go out.

In the San Jose system, he signed an AHL contract to play with their affiliate, Worcester Sharks for his first season. In two games he’s got an assist. It was first reported that he would play in the ECHL with Cincinnati Cyclones but training camp was so good he got bumped up.

Harri Sateri (35)

San Jose Sharks‘ rookie netminder Harri Sateri(35) got some unexpected time riding pine and playing in practices with the NHL team that drafted him in the 4th round of 2008 (#106 overall).

Late last season he joined their AHL affiliate Worcester Sharks and although he didn’t post the best stats, his play was mostly very impressive.

San Jose just reassigned him to Stockton Thunder of the ECHL. I think that’s mostly to keep him close, just in case.. .

10/19 Sateri gets reassigned to Worcester. Must mean the two starting goalies for San Jose are injury-free (for now).

9th year pro, the tough-as-nails center, Kris Newbury(11) is in the second year of his contract extension he signed with New York Rangers in 2010 and started of the new season with their AHL affiliate Connecticut Whale with his second career hat trick.

He’s played games in the NHL in each of the last five seasons (59 games, 4 goals and 4 assists). While those totals aren’t anything to keep him up in the show, he’s still an effective agitator.

Maybe not the biggest guy on the ice (5’10” 205 lbs.), he’s one guy that it’s never any fun to tangle with.

Kris Newbury was recalled by New York Rangers 10/16.

San Jose Sharks‘ 2008 6th round pick (#177 overall) center Tommy Wingels(17) played in 5 games in his rookie season up with the big team but failed to connect for any points.

With Worcester in the AHL he put up 17 goals and 16 assists in 69 games.

After a strong showing in training camp, he found himself in in the lineup on opening night and got himself his first NHL point, an assist and looks to be on his way to solidifying a permanent spot.

He plays with a lot of grit and determination every shift out there and has no problem putting himself in the middle of any situation.
