Pittsburgh Penguins‘ 5th year defenseman David Warsofsky(5) was picked up on the first day of free agency in his first run at the open market after 4 solid years developing in Boston Bruins‘ organization.
In his time in Beantown he played 10 NHL games scoring his 1st goal in the big league and added a pair of assists with a +2 rating.
Unfortunately as one report had it, there was little room in the system for another solid puck-moving, small blue liner, and having two is just crazy talk.
Where he is, the 25-year old fits in nicely on what is a bit of a young, shaky d-corps to begin with but has a lot of power up front.
A super-late cut from training camp he started the season with affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins but was called up a month and a half in and has stayed.
One more game played and he will have more games with the Pens than he did in two years with Boston, and has himself his 2nd goal but is a bit of a woeful -7 plus/minus.
He’s definitely starting to look the part out there and it would be no surprise to see him stay.
David Warsofsky(5) Providence Bruins
Boston Bruins‘ 3rd year defenseman David Warsofsky(5) is in the final campaign of his entry level contract, putting up career high point marks and has a +10 rating in the AHL with minor league affiliate Providence Bruins.
The mini-sized 5’9″ 170 lbs. blue liner is also on the short list of d-men recalled for action with the parent club. For his lack of physical presence out there, he plays a smart, minimum risk style with an offensive upside. He’s been summoned up 3 times to date this season.
In 6 NHL games he scored his first big league goal and added an assist.
He was originally a St. Louis Blues‘ 4th round pick in 2008 (#95 overall) and rights traded in 2010 and signed in 2011 in time to finish the regular season with the farm team.
The still super-young 23-year old, having played three seasons at Boston University and basically grew up skating the Massachusetts hockey route to a pro career.
He’s a restricted free agent at the end of 2013/2014 but it would be like zero surprise to see Boston offer him a 2-year extension.

David Warsofsky(6) Providence Bruins
One of the new guys suiting up for the Providence Bruins late in the season is the newly signed to a three-year entry level deal by Boston, defenseman David Wasofsky(6).
He’s originally from Marshfield, MA and played 3 seasons for BU before turning pro. Originally a St. Louis Blues 4th round draft pick in 2008, his rights were traded to Boston for Vladimir Sobotka.
