Vitek-Vanecek2

Washington Capitals‘ 2nd round pick in the 2014 draft (#39 overall), Czech Republic-born goaltender Vitek Vanecek(30) gets a new 3-year extension with the final two years on one-way terms, despite having only spent time in net for affiliate Hershey Bears and South Carolina Stingrays, as a rookie and a pair of games in his third season.

In 110 AHL games, he has a solid 52-33-15 record with a 2.69 GAA and a .903 SV% and 8 playoff appearances with a 2.47 GAA and .925 SV%.

The 6’1″ 190 lbs. backstop did all of his junior hockey at home, played part of 2014/2015 on loan in Czech 2 and had a pair of starts for Bili Tygri Liberec of Tipsport Czech Extraliga, as he was signed but managed a pair of entry level slides before his 3-year entry level kicked in.

There’s little doubt the 23-year old will be getting a look up in the big league soon.
