15-year veteran defenseman Steve McCarthy(22) finished out the 2014/2015 signed to a pto with Iowa Wild.
He appeared in 13 AHL games scoring 1 goal and 3 assists with a surprising +5 rating on a team that finished with a league worst only 23 wins and 50 points.
The former Chicago Blackhawks‘ 1st round pick in the 1999 draft (#23 overall) was originally in Chicago Wolves‘ training camp to start 2014/2015 but was released as the season started, then signed a tryout agreement with Springfield Falcons but that lasted just three games with no points.
Since 2009, he bounced around Europe playing in Russia, Finland and Switzerland with a half season stops in the minors after spending the 6 previous campaigns in the show most recently under contract with Atlanta Thrashers, Vancouver Canucks and the Blackhawks.
He has 302 NHL games to his credit scoring 17 goals and 38 assists but was never able to live up to the offensive marks he enjoyed with Kootenay Ice, where he recorded 85 assists over three years before turning pro.
Where the 34-year old skates next is fully up in the air but coaching seems to be a heck of a good option for him to pursue at this point.
