After three years and 87 games (12 goals, 14 assists) with Los Angeles Kings, Oscar Moller(10) has decided to turn down the team’s qualifying offer for next year and return to Sweden to play for Skelleftea AIK in the 2011/2012 season.
He is joined on the team by former Manchester Monarchs‘ teammate Bud Holloway.
After 4 years mostly in the AHL, one-time Flyers‘ 2004 draft pick David Laliberte(10) has decided it’s time for a change of scenery and signed for 2011/2012 to play in Germany for Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg.
He did appear in 11 NHL games in ’09/’10 with Philadelphia notching 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). It’s doubtful we’ll see him back in North America.
Defenseman Patrick McNeill(2) will continue to develop for the next couple of seasons in the Washington Capitals‘ system as he signed a 2-year, 2-way contract extension.
He’s spent his entire 4-year pro career with the team, mostly playing in the AHL with Hershey. He has received one call-up last season but has yet to appear in an NHL game.
Blair Jones(9) re-signed with Tampa Bay and will start his 6th year in 2011/2012 as part of organization.
He played 18 games with the team last season (1 goal, 2 assists) then added 7 Stanley Cup playoff appearances.
An energy guy with the Lightning, in the AHL he has shown point per game scoring touch ability with affiliate Norfolk Admirals.
New York Islanders re-signed 2006 4th round draft pick (#115 overall), Slovak born Tomas Marcinko(12) to a one-year, two-way contract extension for 2011/2012.
He has yet to skate in an NHL game and I kind of doubt that will change this upcoming season. At a towering 6’4″ he’s considered a battler for Bridgeport in the AHL, where he has played all his pro games.
Manchester Monarchs‘ fan favorite and top scorer, Bud Holloway(9) declined Los Angeles Kings qualifying offer to stick around for a 4th season in the system and has packed his bags for the Swedish Elite League.
He’ll play with Skellefteå AIK and in a couple of years could very well be back in North America with another team in the NHL. No one doubts his abilities in the AHL but for whatever reason he was never given a shot with the Kings.
Tough guy Joel Rechlicz(19) goes for another ride with Hershey Bears, signing an AHL contract for 2011/2012. Protection for the team: check.
In 28 games he had 132 penalty minutes to go along with 1 that found the back of the net. I could see him playing more games, minutes.
Boston native, 3rd year pro Benn Ferriero(21) re-signed, took his qualifying offer, with San Jose for another season.
He was originally drafted in 2006 (7th round, #196 overall) by Phoenix but never signed.
He’s only played in the Sharks‘ system, including a Stanley Cup playoff game vs. Detroit, where he got the winning goal in OT.
San Jose re-signed tough-nosed forward Jamie McGinn(44) for another season in either the NHL or the AHL. Seems like throughout his first three years he’s split time fairly equally with a little more time spent with the big club.
During the Stanley Cup playoffs he rattled defenseman Aaron Rome hard enough to knock him out of the series with a concussion.
After 3 years, Columbus gives up on their 2008 1st round pick (#6 overall), Nikita Filatov(24) and ships the fledging Russian superstar to Ottawa for what amounts to a bag of rocks, a 3rd round pick.
After watching him play the last few seasons with Springfield, I think as he continues to put more weight on his frame this kid is the real deal and possesses some outstanding play-make-ability. He is only 21.
