5th year pro was signed at the beginning of the year by Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL but has spent the 2nd half of the season with Connecticut, the team he played full-time with in ’09/’10.
He got his 1st AHL postseason goal, the game-winner, in game 3 of the Atlantic Division Semi-Final round vs. Portland last Sunday at the XL.
The Pirates Calder Cup playoff run (for the moment) rests on goalie David Leggio(33), who is playing his first full season in the AHL. He went 22-12 with a 2.80 GAA and .911 SV% this year.
It’s doubtful that #1 goalie Jhonas Enroth(1) will be back until the Sabres are eliminated, which will last at least through the first round vs. CT Whale.
1st year goalie Peter Skoggard(30) from Sweden had quite a journeyman year in 2010/2011.
He started with Danbury Whalers of the FHL before going to Cape Cod Barons to finish up the season there. He had a one game call up to the ECHL with Elmira and finally Augusta of the SPHL signed him late, where a 6-0 run helped boost the Riverhawks‘ overall record and helped propel them into the finals vs. Mississippi Surge.
That’s where it ended though, as they dropped the series 3-0.
Boston Bruins 2007 6th round draft pick (#159 overall), defenseman Alain Goulet(18) has spent more time in the ECHL with Reading this season than he has in the AHL with Providence. Last year he played the full season with the P-Bruins.
He basically finished up the year in the AHL, but Providence failed to make the playoffs so he was recently sent back down to help the Royals in their quest for the Kelly Cup.
P-Bruins‘ defenseman Colby Cohen(26) has Pirates‘ forward Igor Gongalsky(22) in a head lock but is seemingly looking at one of the officials as if he’s doing no wrong.
Goalie Jeff Jakaitis(31) has now spent time in the net for AHL Atlantic Division rivals in the 2010/2011 season. He’s currently up from the CHL Dayton Gems with Portland Pirates. Earlier this season he played a few games for Worcester after Alex Stalock went down and Carter Hutton went up.
The Sound Tigers has to be the team that used the most players on call-up this season (by a long shot). Most of the year when I saw them play, it looked like a who’s who ECHL team.
Bloomington Prairie Thunder of the CHL leading scorer, Jason Dale(51) was one of the latest to get a shot. He has yet to fair too well.
1st year defenseman Blake Parlett(5) started the season in the ECHL with Whale affiliate Greenville Road Warriors but in 12 games in the AHL he’s made it onto the team’s clear day roster list for the playoffs and has folks talking about his future with the New York Rangers.
Since Boston picked up goalie Anton Khudobin(30) from the Wild in a trade deadline deal he has given Providence a chance to compete for an AHL Calder Cup spot going 5-1-1 in 8 games played.
Undrafted, rookie Whale goalie Cameron Talbot(33) eyes the face-off. He’s having an impressive 1st season as a Rangers‘ prospect.
