After 3 years, Columbus gives up on their 2008 1st round pick (#6 overall), Nikita Filatov(24) and ships the fledging Russian superstar to Ottawa for what amounts to a bag of rocks, a 3rd round pick.
After watching him play the last few seasons with Springfield, I think as he continues to put more weight on his frame this kid is the real deal and possesses some outstanding play-make-ability. He is only 21.
Boston did the right thing re-upping veteran forward and Providence Bruins‘ team captain Trent Whitfield(23) for another two seasons.
He will resume his role with the P-Bruins and may even see a couple of games with the Big B’s. Not bad for a guy with 13 years pro experience. He just turned 34 years old this summer

Surprised to see the Devils trade rookie prospect David McIntyre(26) to the Wild for defenseman Maxime Noreau. The deal seems to benefit both teams as both have put up points for their AHL teams.
Little factoid: David McIntyre(26) scored the first goal in Albany Devils‘ history.
San Jose retains the services of the big and tough Frazer McLaren(10) for a 4th year with the organization. The 24-year old is 6’5″ and weighs in at 250 lbs.
His season was shortened last year due to injuries. He appeared in only 40 games with Worcester and 9 in the NHL with the Sharks.
Look for him to rebound and make more of an impact in ’11/’12.

Veteran defenseman, the 35-year old Sheldon Souray(7) has no reason to frown no more. He got a fat $1.65m contract from Dallas after playing with Hershey in the AHL last season as Edmonton was done with him.
Big question here. He didn’t look all that amazing last season in Worcester with the Bears.
The Stars obviously think it’s worth a shot, which he does have a rather hard one of those from the point when he’s on his game. If they don’t keep him, is there a shot he’d go back to Hershey instead of Texas Stars?
It didn’t take long for Anaheim to re-sign 5th year defenseman Sean Zimmerman(25) to a one-year, two-way deal. It happened a couple of weeks prior to UFA day. Although he has yet to play an NHL game, he’s got the potential to get there as a possible fill-in sixth wheel.
Regardless, he should help the Crunch unless he’s traded twice during the season to another AHL team like he was last year.
After two years in the AHL, undrafted defenseman Geoff Kinrade(7) has decided to take his game to the Czech Republic for the 2011/2012 season to play with HC Plzen 1929 in the Elite League. He leaves a Calder Cup champion and played great in all 23 playoff games to help his team win the trophy.
