Last season’s first year pro standout in Worcester, Logan Couture(9) made an appearance last Saturday 2/5 at the DCU with other San Jose players who spent time playing in the AHL with the team.
With 34 points in 50 games played and 7 game-winning goals, he has to be a front runner to win the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year.
Bruins 1st round pick in 2007, Zack Hamill(9) received his second call-up to the NHL recently.
I have him pegged as trade bait in a package with healthy scratch defenseman Mark Stuart for a forward to replace Marc Savard, who has been shelved for the season due to another concussion.
Benn Ferriero(21) was back in the Worcester lineup (his 17th and 18th AHL games of the season) when the NHL took its’ All-Star break last weekend.
He was recalled to San Jose immediately and it’s very likely that this is the last we’ll see of him in Central Mass.
Since the 2008/2009 season, tough guy Jamie McGinn(44) has played over twice as many games in the NHL than he has in the AHL (with 49 this year) but he was sent down to Worcester for the All-Star break, where he promptly scored two goals in his second game back.

Former BU Terrier, Boston native John McCarthy(7) started the season with San Jose played 28 games in the NHL to start the season scoring a couple of goals to go with a couple of assists.
At the All-Star break he was assigned to Worcester for a couple of games, then called up again for a game but was sent back down almost immediately.
My feeling is that he still needs a bit more AHL seasoning before becoming a full-time NHL player.
Ty Wishart(15) is becoming a bit of a journeyman defenseman since being drafted 16th overall by San Jose in 2006.
He is playing for his 3rd team in 3 years since turning pro, including a short stint with Worcester in 2008 and two full seasons with Norfolk Admirals/Tampa Bay Lightning before being traded to New York Islanders and assigned to Bridgeport on the first day of 2011.
On January 31 he got his first recall from the Isles but has yet to appear in a game with the team. He has only 5 games of NHL experience with the Lightning.
2nd year Worcester Sharks‘ goaltender, Alex Stalock(32) received his second call-up to San Jose on the first day of February and was pressed into action, when starter Antti Niemi let in three goals to his team’s zero.
Stalock shut the door on the Coyotes with a perfect 9-9 saves and the Sharks‘ offense stormed back to take the 5-3 victory for his first NHL win.
After seeing him play in the preseason rookies’ game vs. Boston Bruins way back in September, Kevin Poulin(38) showed signs that he would become the future of the New York Islanders‘ goaltending.
In his rookie season, where he wasn’t even deemed as NHL ready, he is putting up some impressive stats in 8 appearances and I wouldn’t be surprised if he avoids a ferry ride back from Long Island to Bridgeport.
On AHL call-up from Odessa Jackalopes of the Central Hockey League, Joel Martin(49) was in the net for the Sound Tigers 6-3 win that ruined “IceCats” night at the DCU Center for the Worcester Sharks in front of 9,800 fans.
Fourth year Sound Tigers‘ defenseman, Dustin Kohn(5) saw action in 22 games for the NY Islanders in 2009/2010 but has yet to get the call-up this season. In all likelihood that should happen soon on the injury-depleted Isles‘ team. He was their 2nd round draft pick, #44 overall in 2005.
