Mark Wotton(4) has been the pillar and team captain of the Sound Tigers for the last 5 seasons.
The 37-year old defenseman with over 850 AHL games played to his credit was named captain of Eastern Conference team at the upcoming All-Star game at Giant Center, Hershey in late January.
After sitting out a bunch of games due to a wrist injury, P-Bruins‘ rookie center Maxime Sauve(7) was back in the lineup for the game last Sunday vs. Springfield Falcons and netted 2 goals, including the game winner.
It’s not only got to be culture shock for longtime New Jersey Devils forward, Jay Pandolfo(29) to be wearing the colors of another team but for that team to sign him to a professional tryout agreement and be in the AHL must just about blow his mind after 13 seasons playing in the NHL.
Still, very pro of him to want to keep on playing at age 35 (36 on December 27) and says something about who he is as a player.
He has managed to help the Falcons since his arrival in mid-November, putting up a point every couple of games and the leadership quality he brings to the team can’t be overlooked. Will they sign him permanently for the season once the pto runs out? I have no answer to that question.
Still a bit weird seeing Dane Byers(34) in a jersey that doesn’t have Hartford Wolf Pack logo on it but even if he stayed with that team, he’d be donning the new team colors of Connecticut Whale.
But alas, he is now a member of the Falcons and doing well with his current stripes.
Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Matt Calvert(11) wasn’t a high draft pick (5th round, #127 overall in 2008) or looks much like a power forward at 5’9″, but the first year left winger is turning heads in his rookie season with 13 goals and 9 assists in 31 games.
It also happens to be his 21st birthday today, December 24.
2008 Columbus Blue Jackets 1st round pick (6th overall) Nikita Filatov(24) after 23 games with no goals has been sent to their AHL affiliate, Springfield Falcons to work on that scoring touch.
In 4 games, he’s got 0 goals and 2 assists. Yikes.
At the game last Sunday at the Dunkin Donuts Center, he showed a looseness and looked like he was having fun out there. He also pulled some moves that had flashes of exactly the kind of player he should be.
Maybe he just still too young. He’s definitely filled out a good deal since the local appearances he made last year with Syracuse Crunch before departing for Russia to finish off the season.
Juraj Simek(10) in his new jersey with the Providence Bruins. He has yet to notch a point in 6 games with the team after a decent start with Norfolk Admirals this season.
Meet one of the newest additions to the Providence Bruins‘ lineup, defenseman Sean Zimmerman(25). He came over to the via a minor league deal to give the Bruins organization a bit more depth at defense.
