Big congratulations to goaltender Nathan Lawson(52) for earning a call-up to the NHL and his subsequent first start in net with the Islanders that went to a tie before losing in a shootout.
In this play he got his mask knocked off in a chippy Sound Tigers game vs. Worcester Sharks at the DCU and comes away from the fracas smiling.
Phantoms‘ goaltending has had little to smile about this season, but rookie netminder Nic Riopel(29) was pretty fantastic in net for the team’s second straight win, their first of ’10/’11, vs. Abbotsford Heat on 12/18 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The night before the Phantoms beat Hershey Bears. In 31 games, they’ve won a league low 6.

An unrestricted free agent after playing one season with Edmonton Oilers, he signed a 2 year, 2 way deal with Calgary and started the year recently with their AHL affiliate, Abbotsford Heat.
He’s one of those ex-WBS Penguins‘ players that I will also associate with that team first.
After spending the last four years in the Washington Capitals‘ system, including 36 games with the team last season, 31-year old Quintin Laing(11) found himself without a contract to start 2010/2011 and signed with Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. He played only 4 games with the team before Abbotsford Heat needed a call-up and some veteran experience on their roster.
By all accounts, Laing has found his perfect fit, appearing in 18 games and providing leadership to the bevy of youngsters on the AHL squad.
It looks as though veteran forward Michael Ryan(14) has found his team to stick with for the season in the Adirondack Phantoms after an unsuccesful stint on a pto with Springfield.
In 7 games he has a pair of goals and assists.
After signing a pto to appear in the AHL with Bridgeport Sound Tigers, forward Jeremy Colliton(21) was rewarded for his early season play with a two-way contract by the New York Islanders, the team he was drafted by in 2003 and only organization he’s played with in North America.
He will likely see some time in the NHL with the Isles in 2011.
He’s the Sharks‘ iron man in net again this season, Alex Stalock(32) played 61 games in his rookie year and is on mark to play that many games or more in 2010/2011.
In this sequence, he stretches out from post-to-post to stop the final shooter in the shootout to get the win vs. the Sound Tigers.

Signed as a free agent in the off-season by San Jose, Sullivan is on track to have a career year for goals. He has 9 in 28 games played. Last season in 77 games with San Antonio Rampage he tallied 12.
Sharks‘ rookie defenseman Matt Irwin(20) is congratulated by his teammates after teeing up the go ahead slapper from the point on Sunday afternoon vs. the Sound Tigers, who would later tie it with 8 seconds left in the game.
