Former Providence Friars‘ forward, Jon Rheault earned his third AHL call up of the season with the Abbotsford Heat after the Manchester Monarchs (35 games 3 goals, 3 assists) released him from his pto back to the Ontario Reign of the ECHL
He promptly potted 3 goals to go with 2 assists in 6 regular season games and 6 goals and 2 assists in 13 playoff games resulting in an AHL contract with the team in the off-season. He has the potential to play in the NHL.
It’s Tuukka time. Bruins‘ goaltender Tuukka Rask(40) earned his first victory of the 2010/2011 season (a 4-0 shutout of the Florida Panthers) in 6 tries and defenseman Johnny Boychuk(55) returned only a little more than three weeks after breaking his forearm on 10/23. He played pretty well too.
Former Bruins‘ defenseman Dennis Wideman(6) was back at TD Garden for the first time since being traded to the Florida Panthers. He was greeted with a chorus of boos every time he touched the puck.
Admirals‘ starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins(30) was picked up in a Montreal Canadiens–Tampa Bay Lightning minor league netminders’ trade in the off-season.
Desjardins had four good years in the Hamilton Bulldogs/Canadiens‘ system, including two years with the Cincinnati Cyclones, where he won a Kelly Cup in 2008.
Admirals‘ forward Blair Jones(9) has been amassing the frequent flyer miles on his many trips from the AHL to the NHL (Tampa Bay Lightning) and back again since he first played in their system in 2006.
Former San Jose Sharks‘ first round pick (#16 overall) in the 2006 draft, Ty Wishart(6) makes his second visit of the season back to the DCU with his team from the last three season, the Norfolk Admirals.
He played only five games for Worcester at the end of 2007-2008 before being dished to the Tampa Bay Lightning for All-Star defenseman Dan Boyle.
