6’4″ 235lbs Monarchs’ enforcer Kevin Westgarth(15) stares down Devils’ forward Brad Mills(17) in the melee. “you want to go, bitch?”
a situation is created as Monarchs’ back up goalie Jeff Zatkoff(36) gets help off the ice after a Devils’ player crashed the net on a scoring play. the team’s #1 netminder Jonathan Bernier(45) was called up to Los Angeles and Manchester was forced into a position of bringing in a local emergency back-up netminder for the game.
loved this call-up for the Sound Tigers, Jean Bourbeau(19), who played all season for Odessa Jackalopes of the Central Hockey League, skated in three games, including this one at the Tsongas Arena vs. Lowell Devils. i picked the Jacks to win last year and this year they finished with the best record in the league.
the ECHL geek in me loves the call-ups and I thought this one was pretty cool this season. Ned Lukacevic(16) has been tearing it up with Las Vegas Wranglers and when the Bruins were in need late in the season due to NHL call-ups, they rang him up. He spent most of last season with Providence under contract with Boston. I strongly feel he’ll be signed to an AHL contract next season. this season just ended for him minutes ago when Utah Grizzlies knocked Las Vegas out of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
Providence Bruins’ captain Trent Whitfield(23) gets in tight to Sharks’ goalie Alex Stalock(32) and gets some company from defenseman Jason Demers(5). veteran skater Whitfield is fortunate to be up with Boston in the NHL, as Providence failed to make the postseason in the AHL for the first time maybe ever…in a long long time.
