Michigan State University Spartans‘ 2023 commit, defenseman Owen West(15) is playing 1 USHL season with Des Moines Buccaneers before heading to school.

The 5’11” 179 lbs. blue liner had a bit of a breakout campaign in his 1st year of NAHL juniors for Jamestown Rebels, scoring 6 goals and 18 assists.

Still only 18-years old, the Pittsboro, IN native should find Atlantic Hockey play pretty competitive for his skill set.

2nd year Maryland Black Bears‘ defenseman Luke van Why(5)  commits to Robert Morris University Colonials for 2023/2024, as he is coming off what should be a career year for assists in the NAHL, and already is in goals with 5.

The 5’10” 165 lbs. blue liner will stay in the same state of his birth, Hatfield, PA, when heading to school, even though it’s a bit down the road from his home base.

He also owns a new best +12 rating.

The 19-year old looks to be setting it up nicely for himself.

11th year center Riley Sheahan(15) started the new season under contract to Buffalo Sabres for 2022/2023 and even appeared in a couple of NHL games after starting the new frame with affiliate Rochester Americans.

A former Detroit Red Wings‘ 1st round pick in the 2010 draft (#21 overall), he won an AHL Calder Cup with affiliate   as a rookie.

The big 6’2″ 214 lbs. power forward has played 634 games in the big league, but only in a pair of seasons came away with 10+ goals and 20+ assists, so hasn’t maybe achieved what was expected of the former 3-year Notre Dame University Fighting Irish.

He has decided to switch things up, opting out of his current contract to sign with EHC Biel-Bienne for the remainder of 2022/2023.

It will be interesting to see if he explodes the stat sheet in Swiss Hockey’s top league, NL.

9th year left wing Mike Zalewski(96) was scheduled to start the new season with EC-KAC, but returns for a 2nd season with Graz99ers, where he put in 10 goals and 11 assists in 36 IceHL games.

Undrafted, he signed a free agent NHL entry level contract with Vancouver Canucks and managed to appear in 6 games over 3 seasons and picked up 2 assists in the process.

Maybe not the most prolific scorer in the minor league with 63 points in 167 AHL games, he did however possess a nicely accountable +21 rating.

The 30-year old, New Hartford, NY native only did 2 seasons at RPI Engineers before turning pro, but can still pull in a good contract.

After 21 games in a new league for the 1st time post 10 straight SHL seasons, 13th year right wing Rhett Rakhshani(89) has decided to retire despite scoring a tidy 5 goals and 7 assists in his DEL debut.

He played a monster 428 games in the top Swedish league, scoring a very nice 112 goals and 170 assists with a +22 rating and two league championships in 2015 and 2019.

The 5’10” 189 lbs. forward was originally a New York Islanders‘ 4th round pick in the 2006 draft (#100 overall).

He skated 7 NHL with no points and 2 penalty minutes.

The Huntington Beach, CA native had great success in the AHL with Bridgeport Sound Tigers, lighting it up for 113 points (44 goals, 69 assists) in 120 games.

This effort definitely provided him the bridge to head to Sweden as his 1st stop.

The former University Of Denver Pioneers, now 34 will definitely find a good life off skates.

Undrafted 5th year right wing Nick Schilkey(7) will take his game to Iserlohn Roosters of DEL for 2021/2022 after signing 4 AHL contracts with three different clubs.

The 2-time Ohio State University Buckeyes‘ captain, who put up 41 points both as a junior and senior, with a college high 27 goals in his 4th year and 22 assists in his 3rd, can definitely strike for points.

His pro highs thus far were achieved in his 2nd campaign with Charlotte Checkers, when he scored 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 64 games, then added another 8 points (1-7) in 19 playoff contests on the way to the 2019 Calder Cup Championship.

The Marysville, MI native was also a big scorer in his 2nd frame of junior with Green Bay Gamblers (32-39 in 59 games), but won the 2012 USHL Clark Cup Championship in the previous year.

At 27 years old, he will likely have great success in Germany’s top hockey.

He takes some decent numbers, 8 goals and 19 assists in 49 games to a new possibility signing with IF Bjorkloven of HockeyAllsvenskan for 2022/2023.

For blowing up the scoresheet with 17 goals and 18 assists in only 26 games, he earns himself a nice 1-year extension to stay.

Mercyhurst University Lakers‘ graduate left wing Eric Esposito(7) is definitely threatening to surprise both goals and assists college best marks this season, already tallying 3 goals and 4 assists, putting with one or two of his highs.

The 5’11” 181 lbs. forward played a full slate of games in 4 years for University Of New Hampshire Wildcats, but at his best as a sophomore only scored 4 goals and 6 assists.

Atlantic Hockey play could suit the 3-time Youngstown Phantoms‘ 3rd year captain better than Hockey East did.

The 24-year old from West Haven, CT is setting up some good looks should he decide to turn pro.

It was a Saturday night non-conference battle at Boston Bruins‘ practice arena, Warrior Ice featuring the home Rivier University Raiders (Nashua, NH) vs. Framingham State University Rams, pitting two teams with near identical records.

The team from up north got on the scoreboard first with a goal late in the 2nd to break the ice, but an early 3rd period press by the other club from down the road would even things up at 1.

In the extra session, the Raiders kept pressing the 3-on-3 til they finally found light to win it 2-1.

Sophomore goaltender Luke Newell(29) stopped 28 of 29 shots for his 3rd win against 2 losses of the season.

Middlebury College Panthers make their annual visit down to Valley Forum for an NESCAC Division matchup vs. Tufts University Jumbos, a pair of teams with only one win apiece in the early going.

The game stayed scoreless through the 1st, but early in the 2nd freshman forward Cole Dubicki(24) lights the lamp for his 1st of the season and the home team just kept scoring to run the tally up to 5-0 by the finish.
