Providence College Friars‘ graduate center Kohen Oleschefski(51) signs a 1st pro deal with Rochester Americans for the remainder of 2021/2022.
He’s coming off a solid session, where his totals were just a goal and an assist off his college career highs and was a +7 skater.
The 6’1″ 187 lbs. forward came to his new school on a year of eligibility through the transfer portal upon completing 4 seasons at University Of Denver Pioneers.
A native of Abbotsford, BC, he played a couple of BCHL frames, with his 2nd going off the hook for 52 assists in 58 games for Chilliwack Chiefs.
No points in his first 2 AHL games, but the 24-year old can’t be too far off.
Canisius College Golden Griffins‘ graduate student, defenseman Joey Matthews(4) came over from 4 years at Dartmouth College Big Green and leaves with a new best 2 goals and college career tying 9 points from 2021/2022.
The 5’10” 190 lbs. blue liner has signed his 1st pro contract with Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
He played a pair of seasons in USHL juniors before committing to school.
The 24-year old from Columbia, IL should be able to impress quickly in the ECHL.
3rd year defenseman John Furgele(21) has figured into 4 ECHL games with new team, Worcester Railers and already has a goal to his credit.
He, like a good many other players took 2020/2021 off due to COVID restrictions.
The year previous though, he bounced around amongst 4 different teams.
He was more settled as a rookie, spending 51 games with Maine Mariners, reaching career high 8 goals and 13 assists.
In 2 years at University Of New Hampshire Wildcats before entering the transfer portal and finishing up as assistant captain for Quinnipiac University Bobcats, he averaged 10 helpers.
The 5’10” 181 lbs. d-man had an interesting juniors’ route through a pair of NAHL campaigns with Bismarck Bobcats before ending up back closer to home in the EHL, where he won the 2013 Championship and then stayed as they switched to the USPHL before heading to school.
It would be little suprise to see the 28-year old breakout with some numbers this season.
And indeed that sort of happened as he has equaled his high 13 assists, set as a rookie, and has a new best +12 rating.
Almost oddly he gets dealt from one team fighting to retain playoff berth to another in roughly the same position, Tulsa Oilers.
RPI Engineers‘ graduate defenseman Anthony Baxter(5) is definitely glad he added a year of eligibility to his schedule.
He posted a career high 10 assists and 12 points in a best 38 NCAA Division 1 games, en route to an ECAC Quarterfinal play.
The solid 6′ 185 lbs. blue liner came over after 4 years, 116 games for UMass-Lowell Riverhawks with a +21 rating.
He spent 3 years of juniors in the close to his home in Oakville, ON, OJHL, twice amassing 20+ assists.
The 24-year old would easily get some looks if he decides to go pro.
University Of Vermont Catamounts‘ portal transfer from 3 years at Cornell University Big Red, senior defenseman Joe Leahy(5) has put up a career high 7 assists and 9 points in 24 NCAA Division 1 games.
The 6’4″ 198 lbs. blue liner has always been a plus performer through college hockey and is a +3 on a team that doesn’t find themselves on the winning side of the tape as much as it wants to.
He played 4 seasons in junior hockey, going from a pair of strong showings in the GOJHL to 2 good runs in the BCHL before heading to school.
The 24-year old, Waterloo, ON native is definitely a good player to watch as he pushing towards graduation.
Yale University Bulldogs‘ portal transfer junior Ryan Carmichael(13) played only 8 NCAA Division 1 games for Notre Dame University Fighting Saints, as a freshman and didn’t skate in his sophomore season, so is putting together modest career best at his new school with a goal and two assists in 26 appearances.
The 6’2″ 201 lbs. definitely plays a power forward style.
He only spent one campaign in USHL juniors for a pair of teams after graduating Brunswick School USHS-Prep.
We only expect the 23-year old (happy birthday!) future senior to have a good final college frame.
RPI Engineers‘ sophomore portal transfer, center Jakob Lee(18) of Merrimack College Warriors has to be wearing a pretty big smile about his decision to switch schools after 19 NCAA Division 1 games, scoring a new high 4 goals and 1 assist.
The very decently sized 6′ 185 lbs was solid through two years juniors for Brooks Bandits, including 2nd as captain, scoring well over point per game totals (47-73-120) in 97 games and won a 2nd straight championship with the 2019 AJHL title after capturing the 2018 GOJHL with 3-year club Listowel Cyclones.
At 22-years old, the Owen Sound, ON native seems to continue to grow into ECAC game.
Clarkson University Golden Knights‘ German-born, graduate defenseman Lukas Kaelble(2) is maybe not quite yet having a career college year scoring but is getting closer with a new best 4 goals and is close on points, but 21 assists as a rookie maybe be tough to catch with what’s left of the schedule.
The 6’2″ 205 lbs. is a solid force on the blue line, transferred after 4-years at Lake Superior State University Lakers.
Before coming over for an impressive season with Fargo Force, scoring 4 goals and 13 assists in 37 USHL games with a +10 rating, he played all of his youth hockey back home.
The 24-year old will be a solid unrestricted free agent signing, if he decides to turn pro.
Merrimack College Warriors‘ sophomore, portal transfer from 1 year at Bentley University Falcons, defenseman Christian Felton(2) has definitely upped his game with his new club, scoring a goal and 2 assists in 13 NCAA Division 1 games with a +4 rating.
In as many games last season, he had no points.
The 6’1″ 185 lbs. blue liner had a pair of solid campaigns for Kimball Union Academy and led the team as captain in his 2nd year for 3 goals and 17 assists, just slightly down from what he was able to accomplish in his 1st year of USHS-Prep.
Committed, he moved onto a deal agreeing to play for Madison Capitals, but after 8 USHL game that went south, though he was ready to move and took off for Vernon Vipers, doing decently with 5 tallies, 10 helpers in 50 BCHL games.
The 21-years old, Medina, OH native looks pretty solid and smart out there, so will just need to continue to develop.
University Of Vermont junior defenseman Cory Babichuk(32) came to the school through the portal transfer from RPI Engineers after missing last season to the pandemic.
The 5’10” 174 lbs. blue liner has a goal and 7 assists in 17 NCAA Division 1 games, which is on pace with the 4 goals and 12 assists he posted as a freshmen.
Through three seasons of junior hockey, he had good runs in his 1st BCHL session for Surrey Eagles, getting 6 goals and 25 assists, then joined Spuce Grove Saints a couple of campaigns later to grab 6 goals and 13 assists in just 26 AJHL games.
The 23-year old from Edmonton, AB seems to be settling into tough Hockey East play pretty well.
