Edmonton Oilers‘ 11th year rare French-born defenseman Yohann Auvitu(81) is getting his full shot at a permanent role in the NHL after playing 25 games under contract to New Jersey Devils last season.
Signed to a one-year one-way deal a week and a half into unrestricted free agency, he definitely played well enough that they saw something.
He scored 2 goals and 2 assists with a +1 rating and only 2 penalty minutes as a first year player in North America and also did decently in the minors for Albany Devils scoring 5 goals and 8 assists in 29 AHL games.
The 5’11” 187 lbs. blue liner came in with 9 years of experience in Finland’s top two leagues Liiga & Mestis, and even played in his home country’s Ligue Magnus as a 17 and 18-year old.
He’s played 10 games in the current calendar and has a goal and 3 assists with a +2, so the 28-year old seems to be right on track for an extension.
