10th year veteran forward Carl Klingberg(48) will stay to spend a 2nd (and probably 3rd under contract) season with EV Zug after have a respectable outing in his debut.
He scored 13 goals and 14 assists in 47 NLA games.
The very decently sized winger has consistently put up 10+ goals in 4 years in the minors with 20+ assists in three of those campaigns and a 20-22-42 run in 2013/2014.
He left with 269 AHL games to his credit to go along with 12 games in the big league with his first and only NHL goal.
The still young 26-year old still has a lot of time left to play elite level hockey.
It will be very interesting to see if he settles in Switzerland or move around some.
Also, crazy to think how many years he’s been seen wearing that #48.
Carl Klingberg(48) Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod
Recalled to skate a few games near the conclusion of the 2013/2014 season, he finally netted his first NHL goal before being returned to farm club St. John’s IceCaps for their incredible Calder Cup Playoff run that took the team all the way to the Finals.
He would sign a one-year extension to stay on but still played almost exclusively with their minor league affiliate until he was once again summoned for another pair of games.
As it turned out, his short stint with the big club may have been merely a showcase for a trade.
He was sent to New York Rangers‘ prospect system on the day before the deadline and finished out 2014/2015 with Hartford Wolf Pack, where he would finish the season with a career high 24 assists, 180 shots on goal and 45 penalty minutes.
He also recorded a best 4 postseason tallies in 13 games.
The 24-year was once again entering a restricted free agency but has decided it’s time to take his game elsewhere and signed a two-year deal with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL through 2016/2017.
Carl Klingberg (48)
Atlanta Thrashers‘ 2nd round pick in the 2009 draft (#34 overall), Swedish-born right wing Carl Klingberg(48) had already played two full pro seasons in the SHL before signing a three-year entry level deal committing to North American hockey.
He skated in 8 AHL games with then farm club Chicago Wolves and one NHL contest.
He’s in the final campaign of his contract and looks to eclipse highs in both goals and points while holding onto a nicely accountable +11 rating.
The lanky looking 6’3″ 214 lbs. forward played in 6 games with Winnipeg Jets scoring no points and has been recalled once this season but did not play.
He’ll be a restricted free agent at the end of the current season but should have no problem netting a qualifying offer, if he decides to continue playing on this side of the pond.
