Dylan-Reese

Veteran defenseman Dylan Reese(42) heads into his 10th pro season joining HV71 of the SHL.

It’s the blue liner’s 2nd foray into overseas play.

Signed to a pair of one-year contracts with Arizona Coyotes, (quickly inked after the first year) he had his best season in 2014/2015 with Portland Pirates scoring a career high 10 goals and 30 assists in 72 AHL games with a +12 rating and 152 shots on net.

He would suffer an Achilles tendon injury in the off-season leading into 2015/2016 that sidelined him for most of the campaign with new farm club Springfield Falcons but responded nicely when he returned assuming leadership duties with the team, pocketing one goal and 7 assists through 23 games.

The soon-to-be 32-year old should do nicely in the top Swedish league but may return on a minor league deal to bridge into coaching as his playing time winds down.

Dylan Reese (2) Portland Pirates

Dylan-Reese2

Arizona Coyotes‘ 8th year veteran defenseman Dylan Reese(2) keeps his streak of appearances in the show alive.

Recalled on only one occasion he skated his game, keeping the streak going of 5 straight seasons of NHL games.

All but three of his 78 appearances were with New York Islanders from 2009-2012 and those were with the one year he was signed by Pittsburgh Penguins.

The not huge, not exactly small 6′ 201 lbs. blue liner decided to go way overseas for 2013/2014 and joined Amur Khabarovsk of the KHL but seemed like it maybe didn’t work out all too well. He only had 2 goals and 5 assists in 45 games.

He was signed on the first of free agency to a one-year two-way deal by the Coyotes and is putting in a career year with minor league affiliate Portland Pirates.

Early in his career he was in their 2008 training camp, played in preseason games and skated his first two years with then farm team San Antonio Rampage, but this is the first time under contract.

In 69 games he has a career high 10 goals and tying 27 assists and best 37 points with a +9 rating.

With 395 AHL games to his credit, it will be interesting to see where the 30-year old goes next, especially with this uptick of offense ignition.

Dylan Reese(2) WBS Penguins

6th year defenseman Dylan Reese(2) had a homecoming with his offseason signing on the first day of free agency, when he was picked up by team he watched growing up, Pittsburgh Penguins.

Signed to a one-year two-way deal, he had to wait for the NHL lockout to thaw until he got his chance to play in front of the hometown crowd, suiting up for 3 games with the parent club but registering no points.

He has been on reassignment with their minor league affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins since the start of the 2012/2013 season and a career high 8 goals.

The 6’1″ 205 lbs. d-man is currently skating in the Calder Cup playoffs for as long as that lasts and if they are exited will likely be brought up as one of the “black aces” practice squad.

It seems like an easy fit to bring the 28-year old back into the fold for another season but he could also have other suitors out there wanting to bring him up to the show on a more regular basis.

He’s played 77 NHL games with 3 goals and 14 assists to his credit. He was originally a New York Rangers‘ 7th round pick in the 2003 draft (#209 overall) but only played as part of their system with Hartford Wolf Pack for four games when his college career at Harvard University was finished.

He signed his first contract with San Antonio Rampage and spent his first two pro seasons with the team. He’s appeared in 326 AHL games scoring 21 goals with 100 assists to his credit.

Dylan Reese(2) New York Islanders

5th year defenseman (his 3rd in the Islanders‘ system) Dylan Reese(2) is making the most of his 1st NHL call up of the 2011/2012 season.

He potted a flutterer from the point in his 2nd game with the team, which also turned out to be a win for the team.

Originally a 7th round pick by  New York Rangers in 2003 (#209 overall), the Isles is the only team he’s played in the NHL with. He has just under 300 games of AHL experience with Bridgeport Sound Tigers (his current team), Syracuse Crunch, San Antonio Rampage and Hartford Wolf Pack.

He does have the ability to be an offensive threat from the point.

Dylan Reese(2) New York Islanders

dylan-reese2-1

5th year defenseman Dylan Reese(2) looks to become a full-time NHL player after splitting time with New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers the last couple seasons.

He scored the Isles first two goals in their preseason game against the Bruins on 9/23 (a 6-3 loss) and looked good offensively but less stable in the defensive zone.

It’s almost certain that he’ll be making a few car trips between Long Island and Connecticut again in 2011/2012.

Originally drafted by New York Rangers in the 7th round of the 2003 draft (#209 overall), he only skated 10 games with Hartford Wolf Pack at the end of his college career with Harvard Crimson but never signed with the team.

Dylan Reese(2) New York Islanders

Dylan-Reese3

Islanders‘/Sound Tigers‘ defenseman Dylan Reese is used to the trips back and forth between Connecticut and Long Island. He’s been called-up 4 times for 19 games this season but has done less well than he did in 19 games in the NHL last season. Having recently been reassigned to the AHL, you have to wonder if he will get another shot with the big club.
