15th year veteran center Kris Newbury(17) tries something new, changing shores for the first time in his pro career, leaving in favor of Fischtown Pinguins of DEL.
He last signed a tryout agreement ECHL contract with Reading Royals, played one game and was loaned up to Bakersfield Condors on a pto for 14 games (3-2-5), returned but barely got back to Pennsylvania before he was scooped up by Charlotte Checkers, where he finished up 2016/2017 with 38 games scoring 8 goals and 7 assists with a +2 rating.
Crazy to think he played 6 games with Pensacola Ice Pilots in the lower league for 6 games (2-4) as a sophomore skater in 2004/2005.
His last appearances in the NHL came at the beginning of the 2013/2014 season, when he found himself on Philadelphia Flyers‘ opening night roster.
He stayed for 4 games recording one assist in very sparing minutes but was returned to Adirondack Phantoms for the remainder of the calendar.
His 699 AHL games is a crazy stat but not even that nuts compared to some other minor league stalwarts.
He also has 76 games in the show with 4 goals, 6 assists and 7 fights.
At 35-years old he may be getting a bit long in the beard but this is a guy that doesn’t know how to stop.
We could easily see him transition into coaching if he ever decides to hang up the skates.
Kris Newbury(11) Connecticut Whale
9th year pro, the tough-as-nails center, Kris Newbury(11) is in the second year of his contract extension he signed with New York Rangers in 2010 and started of the new season with their AHL affiliate Connecticut Whale with his second career hat trick.
He’s played games in the NHL in each of the last five seasons (59 games, 4 goals and 4 assists). While those totals aren’t anything to keep him up in the show, he’s still an effective agitator.
Maybe not the biggest guy on the ice (5’10” 205 lbs.), he’s one guy that it’s never any fun to tangle with.
Kris Newbury was recalled by New York Rangers 10/16.
Kris Newbury(11) Connecticut Whale
No one looks like he’s out there working harder each game than Connecticut Whale‘s Kris Newbury(11).
He also takes every situation personally and often gets heated about it resulting in a fight.
He’s a goal scorer too though and was basically a point per game guy in the AHL this season.
Just got his first two of the postseason tonight in the game 5 loss to Portland.
Series 3-2 Pirates.
Kris Newbury(11) New York Rangers
Kris Newbury(11) is quickly becoming one of my favorite players.
He’s basically a point per game guy in the AHL and doesn’t ever back down from mixing it up when called upon.
He’s had four call-ups this season with the Rangers for 11 games but produced only 1 assist with the team in the NHL though.
Kris Newbury(11) New York Rangers
Kris Newbury(11) is a pretty good fit in the New York Rangers system this year.
He’s spent most of the time in the AHL with the Whale but has also played 9 games with the Blueshirts registering 1 assist and 35 pims.
Colby Cohen(26) vs. Kris Newbury(11)
First year Providence Bruins‘ defenseman Colby Cohen(26), picked up in the trade with Colorado for Matt Hunwick, goes for some seniority status by offering up with Connecticut Whale vet, Kris Newbury(11).
Neither player seems like much of a fighter, although Newbury does seem to have high penalty minutes each season, so he must be some sort of a hot head out there.
Kris Newbury(11) Connecticut Whale
Connecticut Whale center Kris Newbury(11) was recently called up to the New York Rangers for the first time this season.
He’s appeared in NHL games for the last 5 seasons while under two-way contracts for three different teams.
