Philadelphia Flyers‘ 7th year left wing Matt Read(24) is in the final year of his 4-year extension and finding himself on the outside of the NHL roster, reassigned to affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the first time in the minors since his 1st 11 AHL games on an ato with Adirondack Phantoms after 4 years at Bemidji State University in 2011.
The 5’10” 185 lbs. forward has skated 422 games in the big league all with the Broad Street Bullies, has always fit in well and carried his weight.
While maybe only getting over the 40 point mark twice, he has always been accountable with a +5 rating and could hand out assists or put the puck in the net with decent frequency.
At 31-years old, 32 when next season starts, it would be little surprise to see him catch on with another team on a 2-year deal.
We shall see but he’s always been a solid undrafted player.
Matt Read(10)
Undrafted rookie forward Matt Read(10) will be in the lineup when Philadelphia Flyers open their 2011/2012 season Thursday night vs. the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins at TD Garden and he will be one to watch. He’s odds on favorite to be the first Flyers player to put the puck in the net to start the season and without a doubt this 25-year old kid is a Calder Trophy favorite straight out of the gate.
Seems like the Flyers staff didn’t get the news because he’s on their roster list but there’s no photo on his page yet.
Last season after finishing up with his college team, he joined Adirondack Phantoms for 11 games and tossed in 7 goals to go along with 6 assists for 13 points.
He’s the real deal.
Game on.
Matt Read(10) Adirondack Phantoms
Brand new Flyers signing for 2011/2012, Matt Read(10) looks to be the team’s next Claude Giroux.
In 4 games with Adirondack Phantoms, he’s already put in a couple of goals and plays a strong game.
