After two seasons in draft team (4th round in 2013, #106 overall) New York Islanders‘ prospect system, goaltender Stephon Williams(35) failed to snag a qualifying offer to stay despite putting up some ok numbers.
He played 58 AHL games with affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers posting a 24-27-2 record with a 2.84 GAA and .899 SV%
The fairly large 6’3″ 195 lbs. net minder was assigned down on a couple of occasions to Kansas City Mavericks.
In 15 ECHL he had similar stats to what he posted in the higher league.
Through four years at Minnesota State University (Mankato) though, he was a feared backstop, twice winning the NCAA/WCHA Championship (2014 & 2015) and was also named goaltending champion for 2013 and 2015.
The 24-year old recently secured a new one-year deal to join San Jose Barracuda for 2016/2017 and should help them continue to excel.
