Montreal Canadiens‘ 3rd round pick in the 2013 draft (#86 overall) 2nd year Swiss-born center Sven Andrighetto(27) is coming off almost identical scoring seasons with affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs.
The 5’9″ 186 lbs. mini forward had a career high 29 assists and despite playing in 4 less AHL games than he did as a rookie, he only had one less point ending 2014/2015 with 43.
He also happened to skate in his first 12 NHL games on two recalls and got his first two big league goals and an assist this past season.
Starting with a couple of campaigns in Switzerland junior hockey he turned pro as a 17-year old and won the 2011 NLB (Swiss Elite B League) Championship with Visp.
From there he would move on to play two years in the QMJHL with Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and blew up the score sheet with 74 points in 62 games and then dishes 67 helpers in one season connecting for 98 points but that wasn’t even the best part, because in the President’s Cup playoffs he was a two-point per game guy with 8 goals, 22 assists in 14 games. yikes.
The 22-year old is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of next year but will probably be getting a long look in training camp for a roster spot.
He’s definitely small and will have to play with a ton of fire in the belly but based on his track record he could very well stick.
