Undrafted rookie center Trevor Yates(19) wasted no time after finding out he’d been traded to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from Grand Rapids Griffins in making his way to New Hampshire from Ohio for a first game with his new team.

The pretty sizable 6’2″ 200 lbs. forward spent most of his time with affiliate Toledo Walleye scoring 2 goals and 5 assists in 27 ECHL games and was reassigned to Wheeling Nailers after the transaction.

He signed his first contract after finishing up his fourth year at college and started the current campaign with 2 AHL games before being sent further down.

A 10+ goals and assist player in his final 2 seasons at Cornell University he plays with lots of on ice intensity but has yet to turn it into affecting the scoresheet on a regular basis.

In three games, he currently has no points, so if the 23-year old wants to grab another contract from an NHL affiliate he will have to turn on the jets.

He was in Detroit Red Wings‘ training camp.
