Cody-Goloubef2

Ottawa Senators‘ 9th year defenseman Cody Goloubef(29) was acquired from Boston Bruins recently in a minor league deal but got hot on the scoresheet with affiliate Belleville Senators scoring a goal and 5 assists in 9 AHL games to earn a first NHL recall in almost two years, when he was a Colorado Avalanche.

He played parts of five seasons at the highest level playing 130 game total and spent a career high 43 games in the league in 2015/2016, his 6th campaign with draft club Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 29-year old is on a one-year, two-way deal and set to become an unrestricted free agent for a third time.

His current team could offer him to stay but if not, he should pick up a new deal quickly elsewhere.

Trevor-Yates2

Undrafted rookie center Trevor Yates(19) wasted no time after finding out he’d been traded to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from Grand Rapids Griffins in making his way to New Hampshire from Ohio for a first game with his new team.

The pretty sizable 6’2″ 200 lbs. forward spent most of his time with affiliate Toledo Walleye scoring 2 goals and 5 assists in 27 ECHL games and was reassigned to Wheeling Nailers after the transaction.

He signed his first contract after finishing up his fourth year at college and started the current campaign with 2 AHL games before being sent further down.

A 10+ goals and assist player in his final 2 seasons at Cornell University he plays with lots of on ice intensity but has yet to turn it into affecting the scoresheet on a regular basis.

In three games, he currently has no points, so if the 23-year old wants to grab another contract from an NHL affiliate he will have to turn on the jets.

He was in Detroit Red Wings‘ training camp.

JC-Campagna2

2nd year left wing J.C. Campagna(15) earns a 1st AHL loan to Chicago Wolves for 1 game, no points but 2 shots on net before being returned.

He re-signed to stay with Allen Americans for a full campaign but just like that was traded for cash to Fort Wayne Komets right around opening night, where he’s been lighting it up for a career high 21 goals and 27 points in 34 ECHL games with a +8 rating.

The 25-year old is starting to put up numbers that look closer to ones he posted in juniors and college, which you could have seen coming simply based on the style of game he plays.

Luke-Schenn

Vancouver Canucks‘ 11th year defenseman Luke Schenn(23) maybe a little oddly finds himself skating for affiliate Utica Comets.

He was waived by 2018/2019 contract club Anaheim Ducks after 8 games with no points and sent to San Diego Gulls, his first appearances ever in the AHL before being traded.

The very big and sturdy 6’2″ 229 lbs. blue liner has a pair of assists in 3 games with his new club and looks to be making an argument that he deserves to be back up in the show.

Originally a Toronto Maple Leafs‘ 1st round pick in the 2008 draft (#5 overall), he’s never been the biggest scorer with 22 points in his last two seasons with the team before being sent to Philadelphia Flyers, where he spent the next four years of his career.

From there he bounced to Los Angeles Kings for a short stint then 2 seasons with Arizona Coyotes.

The 29-year old veteran of 716 NHL games (30-113-143 with a -51 rating) will definitely need to work extra hard to be recalled but could easily put in the effort.

Signed only through the end of the current calendar, it’s a wonder where he’ll go next.

Jordan-Martinook8

Carolina Hurricanes‘ 7th year left wing Jordan Martinook(48) gets a nice new 2-year deal at $2M AAV to stick right before he skates his 300th NHL game.

The decently sized forward has scored a career high 12 goals in 53 games so far this season with 3 assists.

He’s in a first campaign with the team after being traded from draft team Arizona Coyotes during last year’s playoffs.

The still fairly young 26-year old is in a good spot with a new contract, as when he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent may have his choice of where he wants to play.

Matt-Marcinew9

Undrafted 2nd year right wing Matt Marcinew(22) gets loaned up to Springfield Thunderbirds a couple months in from 2nd season contract club Manchester Monarchs and sticks a pin in it on the last day of January, AHL.

In 23 games he’s scored 3 goals and 7 assists with a +2 rating and those numbers look to be headed in the right direction.

The former University Of Denver assistant captain for the 2017 NCAA Champions win looks to be making it happen but this time on a personal level.

Being from Calgary originally, he also spent time scoring in the AJHL with a couple teams pre school.

He’s not very big at 5’9″ 170 lbs. but easily plays larger than that ever shift.

At 25-year old he’d be an unrestricted free agent pretty much anywhere he goes next and is hoping to write that ticket.

Pheonix-Copley

Washington Capitals‘ undrafted 5th year goaltender Pheonix Copley(1) nets himself a nice new 3-year deal worth $1.1M AAV keeping him in the system through 2022.

He has ascended to full-time back-up duties in the current calendar and has posted a very decent 10-5-3 record with a 2.98 GAA and .903 SV%.

Originally signed by the team after a 2nd solid season at Michigan Tech, he started his pro career on an ato with affiliate South Carolina Stingrays playing 3 ECHL games and one in the playoffs.

The North Pole, Alaska native was stellar as a rookie for farm club Hershey Bears but got traded to St. Louis Blues in the summer afterwards.

He would continue to dominate the AHL for Chicago Wolves for the next year and a half but was shipped back to D.C. in a deadline deal.

The 27-year old make the cut for opening night roster with the parent club and is not looking back.

Alex-Stalock32

Minnesota Wild 10th year net minder Alex Stalock(32) signs a new, very cap friendly ($2.355M) 3-year deal to continue back-up duties as the season heads into the 2nd half.

He’s played 15 NHL games so far this season with a 6-5-1 record, 3.00 GAA and .892 SV%, which seems a little high but he easily keeps his team in every game he starts.

The 6′ 198 lbs. goalie spent the first 7 seasons with draft club San Jose Sharks, including posting a most AHL wins as a rookie with 39 in 2009/2010.

You’ve got to think that the 31-year old, former University Of Minnesota-Duluth and 2005 Clark Cup Champions with Cedar Rapids Roughriders was happy playing pro hockey close to home and maybe took a bit of a discount to stay.

Jamie-McGinn

Florida Panthers‘ 11th year veteran left wing Jamie McGinn(88) plays a 1st AHL game since the end of 2010/2011, when he was a third year skater for draft club San Jose Sharks (round 2 in 2006, #36 overall).

He’s on rehab after undergoing successful back surgery as training camp was set to begin.

In his debut with affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds he scored a 1st goal of the 2018/2019 season in a one goal loss.

The 6’1″ 205 lbs. forward has played 598 NHL games scoring 113 goals and 100 assists but is mainly an effective third-line agitator.

He did post a career second highest 13 goals and 16 assists, which rivaled his 19-19 mark he got in 2013/2014 for Colorado Avalanche.

The 30-year old is on a three-year deal he signed with Arizona Coyotes before he was traded south.

It will be interesting to see if he stays or is released and would very likely pick up at least one year with another club.

Will-ONeill8

7th year defenseman Will O’Neill(27) signed a pto to re-join Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over the summer but had problems cracking the lineup on a regular basis and agreed to be released after 28 AHL games (0 goals, 8 assists).

It only took him about a week to figure out what his next move would be and he heads overseas for a first time signing for the remainder of 2018/2019 with EC Salzburg of EBEL.

The 30-year old may not be producing points like he once did but could be an important piece to bringing his new club another championship.
